Back for the Fall

So I’ve stopped blogging for a while. But now I’m back. Somewhere along the line summer became too busy, and then I wanted to do a back to school post, and then there were deadlines for applications and then. . . . I ran out of excuses. So here’s whats going on:

Classes

This semester looks like its going to be a good one. I’m taking copyrights, legislation, consumer protection and antitrust. The middle two have been going the best so far. They’re those kinds of classes that are just plain old well taught. No matter the subject area, those are just good things. That’s a piece of advice I didn’t hear earlier. Don’t just take classes. Take professors too.

Work/Future

Going along with the idea that the best job is the one you make for yourself, I was looking for an idea for a fellowship project that I could apply to. In a “eureka” moment this summer, I realized that legal aid service providers don’t know much about privacy laws. Some discussions, drafts, meetings and emails later, and this becomes my proposal: providing domestic violence (DV) clinics with trainings and practice materials for the privacy problems their population faces.

I’m really excited about it. When I talk to DV people, they rattle off problems that they face and how they don’t know much about them: court records, ID theft by abusers, nude/embarrassing photos going online, harassment and stalking with technology etc…

Hope it works out.
