Freedom Steaks

Geno’s steaks in South Philly has a new policy:

The customer is always right? Not at Geno’s Steaks in South Philadelphia.

Belly up to its counter and order a cheesesteak in a language other than English, and you’ll walk away hungry. Fromage-avec? Fugheddaboudit.

So do I have to order a “whiz with” rather than a “whiz wit”?

A common order is “Whiz wit”, a cheesesteak with Cheez Whiz, served with fried onions. (”Wit” is an approximation to the local South Philadelphia Italian-immigrant pronunciation of “with,” which is how the word is actually spelled on menus).
